About James

James Bot is an artist and science educator from the science art collective Snart Club. He's researching community connectivity and whether the free Internet is more expensive for TGD communities.

About this series

Transgender Victoria's Affirming Ideas Fund is supporting this project to provide free computer skills workshops to trans folk wanting to feel safe and respected online. Each session explores a different aspect of the open web:

  1. Avatar and identity (decentralised socials, data portability, deleting deadnames)
  2. Machinima and dreaming new worlds together (LAN party to practice solidarity, communication and collaboration)
  3. Community connectivity (alternative networks, mesh, privacy and security)
  4. Improvised infrastructure (GeoCities, webrings, RSS, email newsletters)
  5. Creative autonomy and not-for-profit platforms (Ao3)
  6. Open sourcerers (getting started with open-source software + is Linux difficult to use?)
